Zoo Roco AG is an owner-managed pet store based in Lyss (Switzerland) that has been in business since 1988 and offers a wide range of pet supplies and live animals on over 850 m² of retail space. With over 10,000 products in the online store and around 6,000 items in the store, the range is aimed at owners of dogs, cats, rodents, birds, fish and reptiles.

The company relies on expert advice from trained staff, species-appropriate animal husbandry and fast shipping - over 150,000 parcels a year, delivered on the same day if ordered by 1 pm. Zoo Roco combines regional roots with modern e-commerce expertise and stands for quality, animal welfare and personal service.

The Challenge
Huge cataog, small team.

One of the biggest challenges for Zoo Roco is managing the extensive online store with a comparatively small team. Store manager Mirjam von Dach takes on numerous tasks at the same time - from maintaining the product range to logistics and customer service - which leaves little time for targeted email marketing or systematic CRM.

Newsletters are only occasionally sent to the entire customer database, as the huge and constantly changing product range makes meaningful segmentation difficult.
